Louisville Modern is pleased to offer an intimate guided tour of the Leight House, on Saturday, January 25, at 4:00 p.m. This exclusive tour, limited to eight Louisville Modern members, will be led by Scott Erbes, Curator of Decorative Arts and Design, the Speed Art Museum. Homeowner Dr. Leonard Leight will also be present and will be available for brief questions and discussion following the tour.
The Leight House, is one of Louisville’s most notable modern dwellings. Built in 1967-68 and designed by Jasper Ward’s architectural studio, it’s the embodiment of its passionate owners – Adele and Dr. Leonard Leight.
Trusting their own eyes and working as equal partners, Leonard and the late Adele Leight acquired furniture, ceramics, paintings, and glass—especially glass. As collectors, they were on the leading edge, beginning to acquire contemporary glass in the late 1960s when only a few artists were exploring the material’s aesthetic potential. They haven’t stopped since, building one of the country’s most comprehensive holdings of international contemporary glass, which is a promised gift to the Speed Art Museum.
The cost of the tour is $75 per person, with proceeds benefitting Louisville Modern, with a portion directed to the Adele & Leonard Leight Lecture Series at the Speed Art Museum. In case of inclement weather, an alternate date will be scheduled.
Space is limited to eight people, first come, first serve. There will be a wait list in case of cancellations.
